We are thrilled to share some fantastic news with our A1 Football Academy family! Nick Hanna, the esteemed scout from Aston Villa, will be joining us for two special sessions. Mark your calendars for Friday, June 7th, and Monday, June 10th.

A1 team visit the Leicester City Academy

Friday 14th April saw an U9’s A1 team visit the Leicester City Academy to take part in a friendly appearance versus the hosts.

The match play was set up for 7v7 inside the amazing venue “the dome” and the players were particularly excited to be playing at a “current” premier league facility.

The game was split into x4 15 minute qtrs and was a football bonanza with some fantastic play throughout the fixture on display from both sides.

At the half-time stage it was 4-2 to A1 courtesy of some pro-esq finishes from both Charlie and Ben and some great defending and possession play - fearless some would say!

The second half saw the Leicester side get the better of A1 and the final score was a respectable 6-5 defeat.

Despite the defeat a lot can be taken from the fixture and not just the facility but the overall application by each of the players for the entire fixture.

Work rate was high, intensity was high and quality was high against an exciting Leicester team: well done all :)

Tonight being the 14th April saw our u8's take on Leicester City Academy

The lads gave Leicester Academy a tough challenge in today's game and did themselves and us coaches proud.

Before the match we gave the challenge to the boys to stay positive keep,working hard and try keep our formation to the best of our ability and I thought each player did that exceptionally well.

When the match got tough and the players could have easily given up the kept battling and kept smiling great to see!

A1 ventured north play Chesterfields U9 and 12s.

On a blustery 5th December evening A1 ventured northwards and battled through major delays on the M1 in an attempt to arrive at Staveley the home of Chesterfields U9 and 12s.

Whilst major road incidents caused mayhem for most of the U9s those that did make it quickly got stuck in braving the now cold, wet and blustery conditions to take part in a quasi training game with the Chesterfield team.

The A1 players certainly matched their short term opponents for this game despite a depleted squad with each lad getting stuck in and being extremely lively which was great to see - well done.

As for the U12s there was a full complement of players and great credit to all that made it to the venue. The boys quickly assembled and played a number of small-pitch games versus Chesterfield.

The key focus and subliminal messages in training over recent weeks has been to encourage the players to work hard when out of possession as much as when in possession and to concentrate on distribution - this was witnessed in abundance despite the conditions on the night.

Some great individual displays notably from Reuben who battled and drove forward at every opportunity and got his reward with a nice finish late in the final phase of the game.

Whilst the the final score was 5-2 to Chesterfield there were many positive shoots that can be taken from this encounter and we look forward to continuing to develop these players in the months ahead.

Really want to say a big thank you to Ant for everything he’s done for my 3 boys and especially Ernie.

When we was having 1-1 sessions for George and Frankie, Ernie used to sit and watch as he was only 4 but Ant was great wanting to get him involved and giving him little drills to learn. Didn’t take Ernie long to start getting involved then and Ant filled him full of confidence and really started to take a shine. I remember Ant trying to get him to play games by bribing him with pound coins and Ernie kept dropping them so he had to give him another ��

Eventually he got confident though and played some tournament at 5 where he really started to shine and couldn’t wait for his 6th birthday to start playing grassroots. From there he has gone from strength to strength and I couldn’t be prouder. Again want to thank Ant for everything he has done and for pointing us in the right direction. He is currently playing at Leicester , Forest , Villa and now Wolves are showing an interest through A1.

A1 Academy take on Nottingham Forest Academy

A1 took 2 teams tonight to play Nottingham forest academy, players and parents were nervous but proved not to be! All players played some great football, put some great tackles in and had lots of shot at goal. A1 goalkeeper was on fire and saved plenty of great shots at him including a free kick which he plucked from the air. Very impressed with everyone’s confidence against a very good academy side.

A1 Under 9s Head To Birmingham Academy

A1 under 9’s played against Birmingham City Academy on the 22nd October over at the Wast Hills Training Complex.

The first game was a test for sure. Birmingham stunned the lads with a magical display of passing, shooting, finishing and movement during game 1 which sadly ended in defeat.

A shift in formation and an enhanced sense of focus saw A1 battle and play as a unit resulting in a much improved display in the second game with some great finishes along the way from the likes of Matthew and others as the second game ended in a draw.

The third game was a joy to watch - A1 had now settled into their groove and spent large amounts of time camped in the opposition half - a hatrick was bagged by Henry and a stunning work ethic was now flowing throughout the team which ended with a clear victory.

The final game of the day was very similar to the third game with A1 once again dictating the play and camping for large amounts of time in the oppositions half - this was becoming a theme.

By the end of the games the boys were all exhausted, playing at a high tempo against skilful opposition requires focus and commitment - we all saw this today and a big well done to all of the boys who played today - not one player let the team down.

Big shout out to both Matthew and Joseph who helped out between the sticks in the final game :)

A fantastic game for our boys playing Birmingham academy and many fantastic performances. We started the game really well with three quick goals to go ahead with strikes from Asher Jovan and Olly , Birmingham were to soon come back into it with some good goals. It was end to end with some great goalkeeping Corin Jacob keeping them out of the net, there were academy debuts for Xander, Riley and Braxton were as solid at the back as ever. Olly scoring 5 goals against an academy was a fantastic feat. Jovan was also outstanding with his skill and great footwork . Joint man of the match for Jovan and Olly.

Well done to all the boys.

A1 SOCCER ACADEMY AND LEICESTER CITY ACADEMY THRILLER

The boys were fantastic today.

We lost 10-7 due to a few late goals from the Leicester City Academy team, but we should walk away with our heads held high as every player worked hard and never gave up. Congratulations to Sydney, he gave his everything this evening and managed to get 3 goals for us. He was a true role model for the other lads.

There were first appearances for Casey and Lewis with both doing really well.

Well done to all involved and thanks to Leicester Academy for hosting us.

On the 10th October, A1 Under 14’s played a Sinfin Sharks team at Derby Moor Academy.

The event was split into a series of mini 7v7 games over the 1.5 hour duration.

Before kick off the A1 team were astonished at the size of the opposition and had a sense of defeat before the whistle had even been blown.

However, the coaches installed a sense of calmness and positivity to the team talk and the lads went on to display a wonderful example of matching their opposition in every department possible.

Work rate, intensity, skill and drive to win were examples of what were on display during the performances and this was highly satisfying to witness.

During the game players were given the opportunity to try different positions whilst they settled into the combative environment and each player should be proud of their contributions and fearless play.

Stand out applause must go to Oscar who played with no fear during the game and despite the height and physical disadvantage more than made up for it with some thrilling runs down the wing.

On the night the score ended being a 3-2 victory to A1 and a thoroughly deserved result.

Match report

I personally thought the team gave everything based on tonight's performance. I thought they used the width of the pitch well and was fast and physical within there press of regaining possession. I thought all the boys worked hard tonight and didn't give up no matter the score. One thing I think we could work on is our spacing and positioning when out of possession and the awareness of the oppositions movement and runs. My man of the match goes to Kye as he was confident and worked exceptionally well tonight and kept battling until the end.

I thought tonight my lads were absolutely fantastic against a strong Burton u12s.

All players made a massive contribution and there were some fantastic performances.

But for me one boy Isa emphasised everything we want from players when they pull on the shirt and represent us.

His attitude and commitment is second to none , when he loses the ball he has the desire to win it back, he also is a very talented young boy and scored 5 great goals tonight.

All the boys contributed really well and i saw our 9 goals as a success even though we conceded a lot more against a strong Burton.

Another fantastic night at St.George’s park.

Well done to our team playing burton u10s , really tough at times however some great performances against a tough Burton team.

Leo and Ryan both scoring goals and Erin having a fantastic game at the back for us.

However a special mention to Ronnie who pulled off some point blank saves and was always brave diving at players feet.

A1 v Burton Academy at St. George's Park

A huge baptism of fire at Burton Academy playing some real tough games.

Our u9s competing really well with Mathew Tubby scoring 3 goals in his first game for A1 Academy.

Arthur Smart for me was man of the match with his fantastic battling and his effort and desire second to none and weighing in with a goal.

In total A1 getting 7 goals on the night.

Our u11s found it hard at times however their first game of futsul and some really good battling performances on our first visit to st. george’s park.

Oscar being outstanding in my team showing great effort and desire.

Gavs team pretty much the same plenty of effort and commitment with Riorden having a great game in goals.

Some great performances in trying conditions however some great experiences.

Well done all involved.
